ABOUT/Frequently asked questions

What is the Alexander Technique / G.U.T?

The Alexander Technique is a mind and body practice developed by F.M Alexander.

Alexander Technique, it can be argued, combines elements of Eastern and Western health practices. It is preventative, rather than curative, in nature.

G.U.T, Grand Universal Techne, takes inspiration from Tai Chi (which translates to Grand Ultimate). This is my business name.

Techne is an ancient Greek word meaning philosophy of art, skill, or craft.

There is additional information about Alexander Technique available at AUSTAT (the official body of Alexander Technique teachers in Australia) https://www.austat.org.au/

How does your product/service work?

In person lessons resemble a visit to a physiotherapist - the biggest difference, however is that while physical touch is involved (or not, depending upon what the needs of the student are) there is very little direct intervention - for instance, not much prodding or rubbing like massage.

The hands of an Alexander Technique Teacher are meant for listening and guiding.

How much does it cost?

An initial 1 on 1 consultation of 1 hour - $120

Book here: https://calendly.com/granduniversaltechne/initial-consultation

Subsequent 1 on 1 lessons (40 minutes) - $100

If your financial circumstances are extraordinary, please contact me. Exceptions can be negotiated.

Do you offer other services?

Workshops with larger groups, and online (zoom) lessons are in development. Watch this space!

How can I contact you?

You can reach me with via the email granduniversaltechne@gmail.com

What do I do after a lesson?

Similarly to a physiotherapist, if they give you an exercise to do - Alexander Technique is exactly the same. There are simple practices that with repetition, will help you.

How does this improve my health?

The premise of the Alexander Technique assumes we are moving, or doing something to a degree that hinders us. Left unchecked, this can lead to discomfort, injury and pain.

Therefore, how do you identify and then undo these hindrances? That is at the heart of an Alexander Technique lesson.
